AbstractEvery single year millions of animal are slaughtered for human consumption. Before slaughter these animals are raised on factory farms. Confined, kept in extremely harsh conditions these animals suffer throughout their short lives, experiencing things that can only be described as inhumane and cruel. The public largely overlooks the animal welfare aspects of food production, ignoring the cruelty these creatures suffer, as well as disregarding the major societal, environmental, and human health issues the industry contributes to. Only through subsequent awareness and education can there be change towards better lifestyles that benefit not only animals but humans and the earth as well. Without change, environmental degradation will continue, animals will suffer, and the factory farming industry will continue to corrupt society.
